How to switch post type for a page or post safely and easily in WordPress? In WordPress, we create Posts, Pages and Custom Post Types. Posts and pages serve very different purpose. Posts have time stamps and they may be relevant for a certain period of time. Posts present time sensitive content. But content on pages is not time sensitive. Pages contain static content. They are created mainly at the early stages of website development and can remain the same after many years and still be relevant and accurate.

There may be situations in which you might need to convert a post into a page or page into post on your website. You to switch pages and posts into each other in WordPress. Easy way is to do it via WordPress Plugin. Go to WordPress plugins. Search and install ‘Post Type Switcher’. You can switch post’s type while editing your post. Edit or Quick Edit a page or post and find option to switch post type. From there switch page into post or post into page and save changes.

You can do similar thing by using PHPMyAdmin or from your WordPress database or from CPanel. Go to PHPmyAdmin and select database of your website. Click at table with the name _posts
wp is a prefix that may be different for you. Here scroll to the right and you will find post_type column. You can change post type from page to post or post to page and update that row for any post. This will serve same purpose.

Changing post type is needed sometimes. Sometimes you create a post or page and add data to it, then you realize that it’s in wrong post type. Instead of creating another similar page or post, just switch its type. You can turn popular posts into pages by changing their post type if you need to.

However, please keep one thing in mind that if you have custom fields data attached to a particular post or page and you switch its type, that data can be lost. But in case of page builder related data, in most cases, post type switch is smooth. To be sure that you won’t loose data or change data in any way that is not good, duplicate the post or page and then switch post type of duplicated post or page. This is how you can switch post type for page or post safely and easily in WordPress.
